Andrew Carnegie lived in Scotland until he was 13 then moved to Allegheny, Pennsylvania. He started work right away in a cotton factory.

He became a telegraph operator to make more money but then decided to be a railroad worker.

He went on a trip to England saw how they were using the Bessemer Process to mass produce steel so he decided to come back to America and do the same.
Andrew Carnegie put all his money into starting his first steel plant but still didn’t have enough. He asked Thomas Scott for a loan and he gladly gave him the money.

He started the Carnegie Steel Corporation in 1873 near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania when people were moving to the cities and new inventions were made. This time period is called the age of industry.
To start this Corporation he needed money, property, and workers.
There can be many risks to starting any business. For example there might not be anyone wanting to buy it or the steel plant could end up not working.
Along with the risks there are many rewards such as building better buildings and the money he could get from selling it.
