On the first day of first grade I walked apprehensively into my new classroom. I did not want to be in this classroom! I wanted to be home! I put on my fake happy smile.

Everything is so new, so confusing. I do not know these kids. I miss my mom. I want it to be summer time again!

A loud sing-song voice comes from the front of the classroom.

"Everyone sit on a square on the rug and we will get started. I am Mrs. Huberty and welcome to first grade!"

Mrs. Huberty looks nice enough I guess, I think as I sit on my favorite color square- blue.

Mrs. Huberty then explained what we do in first grade. There is so much! We are going to learn how to read, raise butterflies, learn more math, have a big tea party, and even get to learn about bats and dress up as them.

As the year went on we did all that Mrs. Huberty promised.

We read so much! My favorite time is when we read Junie B. Jones as a class.

Our butterflies started as caterpillars then cocoons and then finally became butterflies. We released them as a class.

Math is hard work but I can now do addition with big numbers.
