Personal Narrative Essay
Tommy's Mustache
I’ll never forget the time I shaved Tommy's beard. He was my cat.
It all began when I saw my father shaving his beard. As a child, I found it very interesting. Later, I thought about trying it on myself. Unfortunately, my chin was very smooth, and it did not work. However, I kept thinking about it until I got a great idea!

One day, when my parents were not at home, and my grandparents were resting in their room, I decided to shave Tommy's mustache. He was a beautiful pet. I thought that if I shave his beard, he was going to look more beautiful. At first, I looked for my father's razor blades, but I could not find them. Next, I found my mom’s scissors and decided to use them with Tommy. Then, I put the cat on a chair and have it ready for shaving.

No matter how, the cat was not willing to accept my free services.
As soon as I grabbed him to cut off his mustache, it started screaming and scratching my arms. That hurt!
However, I was not going to give up! I took some meat from the refrigerator and used it to catch the cat. Once in my hands, I cut half of his mustache! Oh, yeah, he was looking nicer!
But, when I was ready to cut the other half of the mustache, my grandpa appeared through the door shouting:
"Leave the poor cat alone!"
Huh, I jumped and dropped the scissors down! I felt like a tornado hit me very hard. I never before heard my grandpa yelling at me!

Leave the poor cat alone!

Meow!
That day, my grandpa scolded me and made me promise not to do that again. He also explained to me that the cat’s mustache or whiskers were very important for cats. Whiskers were filled with nerves that send signals to the brain about whatever they touch. Those hairs prevent cats from bumping into things.
Finally, I learned that animals have feelings and feel pain like people, and I should respect and care for animals as I do for people.

I am so sorry!

She cut my whiskers!
You are being mean to this poor cat.

My mom's family was very poor. They could not afford to pay the school for her three children. So, my mom had to work to support her family. She was just 16 years old when she started working as a waitress in a local restaurant. She also helped her mother with work in the field. My mom had a difficult life but she never complained about that.

Later, at the age of 23, my mom married my father, and I was born in 2001. Three years later, my brother came along.
My mother was a staying home mother and always took excellent care of my brother and I. Unfortunately, my parents divorced and those years represent the most painful memories of my life. My mom moved to the USA to give my brother and me, a better life. She studied and worked very hard. She also learned English, and now she can communicate very well.
I am so proud of my mom. Her accomplishments have taught me that although once life was hard, we still need to have confidence and push hard ourselves to reach our goals. I am so proud of my mom because she did so.
