A young Goshawk
There are many types of birds that one can use. The most popular bird within the majority of the world is the harris hawk. The harris hawk is one of the few types of birds of prey that hunt in groups or flocks known as cast. They range from southern mexico to arizona, some can even be found in parts of texas. When you begin your time as falconer you need to trap a wild bird. The most common bird will be a red tailed hawk. Falconry does not only preatin to hawks; as the name suggest many people use falcons a eagles as well. One Of the most common falcons is the peregrine falcon(Also the fastest animal on the planet) the pergine only weighs about 1.5 pounds and can reach speeds in excess 260 MPH.
A captive redtailed hawk
Training a bird of prey may seem like a long process to one who knows little of the sport itself. Most would most likely believe that it would a least take 6 months. In all reality it only takes a matter of 2 to 3 weeks to go from a wild bird to the point where you can take it out into the woods and know that it will come back. There is a lot more than this but it would mostly likley take more 20 pages.
