For Momma

Did you know that whales used to look a lot like how dogs look today? Scientists have proved that ancient whales used to be land animals! If this is the case, could it possibly happen again?
Sea Wolves, a group of wolves in Canada, could be an example of this happening in real life.
These wolves are becoming more and more water loving. They are excellent swimmers and can even swim between islands.
In fact, most of their food comes out of the water. Almost 85% of their food is fish. Compared to regular wolves, that is an incredibly high number, as their diet is only
30% fish.

However, this is not the case for all wolves! These wolves are very different in the way they look and act.
Wolves generally eat larger prey animals, like moose and deer, but as long as there is a steady food source, you can find a happy wolf.
There is a little problem with the diet of these wolves. The fish that they eat are full of parasites. Research shows that when other wolves try to live alongside sea wolves, the other wolves end up dying from the parasites in their stomachs.
Sea wolves have an interesting behavior that is taught to them from their parents. They eat only the heads of the fish instead of the fatty bodies. This seems strange until you learn that the body of the fish holds all the parasites!
Why did sea wolves start eating fish in the first place? It sure does take a lot of energy to swim between islands after all.
Wolves are predators, which means they hunt other animals for their food. Bears are predators too. Because they hunt for the same thing, they must compete for their food.
