In a land far away, a young, beautiful princess went out alone for a walk. The only thing she took with her was a round golden ball. As she made her way to the cool fountain in the dark woods, she threw her ball up high in the air and caught it! However, the next time she missed catching her favorite plaything and it rolled right into the water and it vanished into the depths of the well. She began to cry and cry.

All of a sudden she heard a voice ask “What ails you kings daughter?” She turned and saw a frog! He was big and ugly. His head stuck out from the water. She replied, “I have lost my golden ball, which has fallen into the well." The frog said that he would retrieve it for her but only if she would let him be her companion and playmate. He wished to be a part of her daily life. The princess agreed! “I promise you all you wish!”.

The frog, vanished into the water and returned with her golden ball. The princess was delighted, picked up her favorite plaything and left the frog where she had found him. He called after her “Take me with you!”. She ignored him. The next day as the princess ate with her father the king, the frog arrived at their door.Knock! Knock! “Princess, youngest princess open the door for me. Do you remember what you said to me?” She opened the door and became frightened.

Quickly, she shut it and ran back to her father. The princess explained what had happened . Again, the frog knocked on the door reminding her why he was there. The king told his daughter, you MUST follow through with your promises. The princess opened the door and the frog took his place at the table. She was not happy with the frog’s company at all! He wanted to go to bed and lay down next to her in her clean little bed. The princess began to cry.

The king was firm and said "He helped YOU when you were in trouble. You must follow through with your words”. She obeyed her father and carried the big, ugly, wet frog to her room. But she did not put him in her bed. He was placed in a corner. The frog exclaimed “I am tired, I want to sleep as well as you, lift me up or I will tell your father”. The princess became angry! She picked him up and threw him against the wall! “Now, you will be quiet you repulsive frog!"

As he fell to the ground he was transformed to a king’s beautiful son. He was now her husband and companion because of her father’s strong will. The prince explained that he had been turned into a frog by a wicked witch. The only way to break the spell was when she agreed to take him from the well. The next morning a carriage arrived and took the prince and princess to his kingdom.
