There was a little boy born on October 14th, 1644 in London, England. His name was William Penn. His parents were Sir William Penn and Margaret Jasper Vandershuren.

When William grew up, he went to school at Christ Church College. They asked him to leave in 1660 because he did not agree with the Church of England's beliefs.

After asking to leave college, William decided to take an adventure to Ireland. When he was here, he met a group called The Quakers.

The Quakers are a religious group who are peaceful, believe everyone is unique, and want to make the world a better place.

William joined the Quakers and became an important member. He was sent to jail several times because people did not agree with The Quaker's beliefs.

After leaving jail, William decided to go to North America to find a safe place for the Quakers to live.

In 1681, William asked the King if he could have the land West of the Delaware River. The King agreed and William settled in this new land, which he named "Penn's Woods."

This land is also known as, "Pennsylvania". Many Quakers decided to come here because they could practice their religion freely.

And that is the story of how Pennsylvania came to be!
