Elephant seals get their name from the male's large nose that resembles an elephant's trunk.
They spend 80% of their lives in the water, where they can hold their breath for up to 2 hours! They have blubber, thick skin, and fur to keep them warm in freezing waters.

Fire ants are reddish-brown in color. They live in colonies as big as 200,000 ants. They have a painful sting which is why they are called fire ants! They are considered omnivores, they eat both plants and meat!

The largest tortoise species, they can reach up to 4 ft long! They are herbivores, so they eat only plants. They are very slow, with a top speed of 1 mile per hour!

Most humans are omnivores, we eat both plants and meats.
The scientific name for humans is homo sapiens.

Insects are small animals, with an exoskeleton and 6 legs. Most have wings and antennae. We share our planet with over one million species of insects! All insects hatch from eggs and have 3 body parts, the head, the thorax (middle part) and the abdomen (end part).

Jellyfish have no bones! They spend their lives floating freely through our planet's oceans. Jellyfish are carnivores, they use their tentacles to stun their prey!

Kale is a vegetable with green or purple leaves. It belongs to the cabbage family.

Lavender is a beautiful flowering plant. Mosquitoes cannot stand the smell of lavender, so tell mom or dad to keep some around to keep them at bay! Some people even use lavender in their baking recipes!

Mammals include humans and all other animals that have hair and a backbone. They are also warm blooded. They feed their young with milk and are highly intelligent! Mammals live in all sorts of environments.

Numbats look similar to squirrels. They can only be found living in Western Austrailia, where their numbers are small. They survive off of a diet of termites, up to 20,000 a day!

Oak trees only grow in the Northern Hemisphere of the world. Oak trees can produce nearly 1,000 acorns a year. Inside each acorn is a seed that has the potential to grow into another oak tree. They live for hundreds of years!
is for Palm Tree


The leaves of a palm tree are called fronds. These trees are found growing in tropical and subtropical climates. The most common fruits that grow from palm trees are coconuts and dates. Fossils show evidence that palm trees were around during the time of the dinosaurs!
