The war began when the English rulers wanted the land of their ancestors to themselves.
The French kings wanted to rule France. The French believed that they shouldn't have to be ruled by kings in a different country.
The French and English fought for years. Small disputes over land usually were the cause. Until, King Richard III of England claimed himself as the rightful king of France.

This caused national outrage in the French realm. This started the long lasting war between the French and English, which would be today known as, the Hundred Years War.
The Hundred Years War brought a change in the style of warfare in Europe. The long bows' power was different from the traditional bow used in warfare. It could penetrate armor and cause damage to metals.
It took lots strength to pull and work the longbow. The longbow could shoot so fast that it was called "machine gun of the middle ages". The arrows proved fatal even when shot within 100 yards.

Joan of Arc was a French peasant she felt moved by God to save France from the English. When Joan was just 13 ,she had visions telling her to save the country and give the crown to Charles VII, son of Charles VI.

On 1429 Joan of Arc led an army to recapture a fort near Orleans, but the French lost, but Joan charged back and broke the siege they took by Orleans. She was captured by the English, King Charles VII owed his crown to Joan but he did nothing to save her.
