I woke up one day and I lost everything I could've possibly loved. I lost everything slowly but first was my mom loosing custody of me. My mom and dad weren't on really good terms when they got divorced and my dad said "I will do whatever it takes to take full custody of our child" which was the last thing he said before he got kicked out of the house. Since then I've never heard from him.
My parents finally got divorced when I was 5. I assumed that he was cooking up a plan since it's been years since we spoke but some days I would think he forgot about me. After the divorce situation, me and my mom moved up to New York City and started a new life there.
I went to school until I got to College. I just turned 18 and I'm now grown. I got my Associate's degree at the same time I graduated with my Diploma so I got a Scholarship for that and entered a wealthy College in New York City. My mom was proud of me because she knew how hard I had to work to earn that Scholarship.
It was my 5th week in College and I was jogging to my class since I was 15 minutes late. While I was jogging, I heard someone shouting my name. I thought I was crazy for a moment so I kept jogging to class until I heard the shouting get louder. I stopped jogging to turn around face-to-face with a man. He didn't look familiar so I was curious towards why he wanted my attention so bad.
He called me by my real name and I became intrigued with this man that claimed he knew me. The man embraced me in a tight hug. I felt awkward because I didn't know who I was hugging. I looked at my apple watch and I was 23 minutes late for class. I tried to pull the man off of me until he said, "Faith? You don't remember me?"
I backed up away from him to fully examine his body and how much he has changed since I last saw him as a kid. I asked him how'd he knew I moved in New York. I had a bunch of questions to ask him but all he would say was "Don't worry about that now. All that matters is us seeing each other again." You would've thought I would be crying by now but I was mad on why he wanted to be apart of my life as soon as I'm doing better.
The only information he told me was that we was planning to take me back home. I didn't know what he meant by 'home' because my home was in New York and I didn't plan on moving away anytime soon. I checked my watch and I was 30 minutes late to my class. I told my dad that he was holding me back from my class time. He ended the conversation and let me go to class.
I ran to my class and knocked on the door. I felt guilty having to interrupt class time so I had to pull my Professor out the class to explain to her why I was late. She understood so she didn't mark me late for class on the attendance sheet. I sat in my seat and she continued teaching the class. I got the notes that I missed from one of my College friends.
After class ended I walked towards my car. Before I reached home, I stopped by Dunkin' Donuts for something sweet and drove home safely. When I got home my mom greeted me with a hug and asked how my day was. I responded saying, "Something crazy happened earlier." She got comfy on the couch and I explained to her everything that went down between me and my dad.
As soon as I said my dads name, my moms face changed like her she was sick to her stomach just thinking about my father. I still never understood why my mom hated my father so much but I knew better not to ask because I knew it would trigger her anger and that was something I didn't want to see. My mom interrupted me by asking me to get her phone from upstairs.
I don't know why her phone was so important while I'm in the middle of my story but I didn't ask questions. I gave her her phone and sat back down. I could see in the reflection of her glasses that she went to her contact list and dialed an unknown number. `She didn't put the phone on speaker so I had to stop breathing a few times to hear who she was on the phone with. The voice wasn't familiar so I kept trying to ease-drop.
I knew the conversation between her and the other person was getting intense when she got up and took the conversation outside. I rolled my eyes and just walked up to my room to change into a comfy outfit. I walked into the living room and my mom was still outside on the phone but this time she was yelling like she was mad. I walked outside to see what the big fuss was about.
Before I got to my mom, all I heard was, "You will not take my daughter away from me!" I assumed she was on the phone with my dad so I bought my mom inside the house because I didn't want people in my neighborhood over-hearing my mom yelling. I got my mom a glass of water so that would help her relax. While my dad was talking she hung up the phone in his face before he could finish his sentence.
