I was 15 when the new iPhone X came out. I was stuck with an Andriod and my mom was an addict to drugs. She never really paid attention to me since she was so caught up with her drugs. My dad wasn't in my life because he also was an addict and since I wanted the new iPhone, my only choice was to get it myself. I was an independent female and I never liked asking people for help or rely on people at all. I always got things done myself and I never asked for help.
I usually walk home by myself since I wasn't a people's person. I never liked being surrounded by packs of people or people talking to me. I only spoke when spoken to. My home was far from school so I had plenty of time to think about ideas on how I plan to buy myself the new iPhone I want. It was almost Summer time so that meant that the weather would be really hot.
On my way home I stopped by the corner store to get me a drink. Looking at all the cool beverages, I picked out Fruit Punch and took it to the cashier to be bought. I continued to walk home and got the idea of selling Lemanade especially in this weather.
The area I lived in wasn't as neat as a regular community was. There were stray cats and dogs, gangs, old rusty cars on the side of the road, the street lights didn't work well and there were always suspicious people walking around. My neighborhood wasn't safe but everyone knew about me and that my mom did drugs so they understood that I had a hard life. They called me by my name, Molly.
I walked to my Apartment door and as usual the front door was unlocked. My mom would always forget to lock the door so she never bothered locking it anymore. My mom would go nuts whenever I tried to lock the door for our safety but eventually I stopped locking the door just so that would put her at ease.
Inside my apartment, my mom was out cold on the couch with a Cigar in her left hand. I didn't bother checking if she was alive or not because at this point it wasn't like she cared about me since I did everything on my own. My mom sold drugs to pay for our bills and I was too young to get a proper legal job.
My room was probably the only room that was kept clean. The kitchen was always a mess so I found my own way to feed myself, the living room was my moms 'Lounge room' where she did drugs, she never slept in her room unless she had men over and the bathroom was a mess but I had my own bathroom connected to my room.
I walked to my room and organized everything that was out of place. I always kept my room door locked just in case if my mom tried to stash her drugs underneath her bed or something like that. I held in a lot of anger towards my mom for the things she did. I pulled out my notebook to start writing down my ideas for the Lemonade stand. I was a smart kid so I thought, "If I was rich, what neighborhood would I live in?"
Sunrise State popped into my head. I planned what time I wanted to set everything up and what time everyone starts to walk out their homes which was mainly at around 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM. After I had my schedule ready all I needed was the materials to make the Lemanade. I found my own ways to get and save money so I was always wise with what I bought.
1 week later...
I bought the Lemons, sugar, container, spoon, ice and water bottles. While my mom was out handling her business, I cleaned a section of the kitchen counter to prepare for the Lemoande stand. Once I was done adding each combination I set up the stand in Sunrise State Neighborhood.
A few minutes later...
So far I've had 5 customers in the past 10 minutes. The cups were pretty tall so I charged $2 for each cup. An hour went by and the drinks were selling fast. I made another case of Lemonade just in case that I would run out of the first one. Continuing on with my day, I made about $100.
After 2 1/2 hours of selling Lemonde I went home with $120 in my hand. The iPhone X cost $800 so I was a couple 100s short before I could reach my goal. I took down the stand and went back home. My mom still wasn't home from whatever she's been doing all day so I just went straight to my room, counted my money and put the money in my money safe in a hiding spot.
I told myself for the next few weeks I would go into different neighborhoods to sell Lemonade in order for me to raise enough money for the iPhone X. I went to sleep but woke up to the sound of banging noises on the wall and pictures frames falling to the ground. I glanced at my clock and saw it was 1:33 in the morning. I peeked out my room door and saw my mom with some man in the living room.
I rolled my eyes at how naive my mother could be to bring random men out of the streets and bring them to our home with me there. I assumed she was high off of her drugs. I took my headphones and blasted music mid-loud in my ears so I wouldn't hear anything going on until I fell asleep.
My alarm went off and it was time for me to start another day of working. I got done getting ready for school and stepped out my room. All I saw was my moms room cracked open. I peeked in and saw my mom and the same man that crashed the house last night. I walked to school and kept going with my life. I can't even remember the last time me and mom had a conversation or even spoke to each other.
Every time I got home from school she was gone and every time I would leave for school in the morning, she was always knocked out somewhere in the house. I got to school and did my work until it was time for me to go back home.
1 month later...
After a month of selling Lemonade, I finally reached the amount I needed to get my phone and I even had extra money that I decided to save for something else that I might need. I went to T-mobile and gave the whole amount to cashier for the phone that I wanted. I told them that I had insurance that was big enough to cover my phone bills for a lifetime especially since they knew about my moms situation so they understood and had sympathy and pity for me.
There was a sale where I could get free Airpods if I spent more than $500 for an iPhone. I took the deal and enjoyed my new Airpods and iPhone. I got home and as usual my mom wasn't home. My days consisted of going to school, working towards my money and coming home. I barley left my house because I was always working on something.
