Polly's Puppy Problem
By: Sara J. Cook
One somewhat sunny afternoon, a Husky puppy named Polly was getting a new outfit at Paw-Mart with her mother, Karissa. She was going to start school for the first time tomorrow, and she needed to look good.

Although, Karissa put some clothes Polly didn’t like into the shopping cart and was already paying for them!
“Mom, these clothes are ugly!” Polly barked angrily.
“You get what you get, and don’t be upset. Be happy about what you have.” Karissa snarled back. Polly saw a yellow striped crop-top and a pair of oversized brown pants as they started walking out of Paw-Mart, outfit in her arms.
“Ew, how am I going to make any friends with this outfit?!” Polly thought, clearly unhappy with Karissa’s choice in clothing.

So, they walked out of Paw-Mart as Karissa said, “We better get home before the sun sets fully. It is past your bedtime, anyway.”
So Karissa and Polly started walking home, Polly still pouting about the outfit. Would she be able to make friends with her hideous clothing?

Once they got home, Karissa tucked Polly into her luxury dog bed and folded her outfit on the ground.

“Good night, little one.” Karissa said.
“Night,” Polly growled, facing her back to Karissa.

Karissa sadly walked out of her room, knowing she was still upset about the outfit.
So night turned into day as Polly slept the hours away.

The next day when Polly got to school, she walked down the halls with a frown on her face.
Other classmates stared at her, and some looked at her through the corner of their eye. She thought everyone hated her outfit! She knew they would!

“Ugh! My mother NEVER gets me ANYTHING good!” Polly growled angrily. As she was stomping angrily on the grassy pavement, she saw a fluffy, chubby Pomeranian puppy around her age, sitting on a bench sadly.

“What’s wrong?” Polly asked as she approached the sad, fluffy Pomeranian.
“My mom got me the wrong outfit! And it's HIDEOUS!” The puppy looked at Polly sadly but angrily, pointing at her tie-dye shirt.

“No! You look amazing! My mom got ME an ugly outfit.” Polly growled as she pointed at her striped crop top.
The puppy smiled while saying, “Really? I look good? You look good, too! I love stripes and crop tops!”

“You are so nice! I can’t believe my outfit is good! Maybe I just thought it was bad because I wanted something else.” Polly smiled with the puppy.
“My name is Kaya, what's your name?” The puppy, Kaya, asked.
“My name is Polly. It’s nice to meet you, Kaya!” Polly and Kaya shook each other's paws.

“We are going to be BEST friends!” Kaya smiled wide. Polly nodded with a smile.

It was the end of the day, and Polly got home, smiling.
“Well, you look happy! Very different from this morning. How was school?” Karissa barked happily. “Did something good happen at school?”

“Well, everybody hated me and did not want to be around me when I got to school. I thought it was because of my outfit, but then I realized it wasn’t because of that!” Polly barked and smiled happily, wagging her tail.
