Cell theory
~is the historic scientific theory, now universally accepted, that living organisms are made up of cells, that they are the basic structural/organizational unit of all organisms, and that all cells come from pre-existing cells

Eukaryotes
~an organism consisting of a cell or cells in which the genetic material is DNA in the form of chromosomes contained within a distinct nucleus. Eukaryotes include all living organisms other than the eubacteria

prokaryotic
~a microscopic single-celled organism that has neither a distinct nucleus with a membrane nor other specialized organelles

nucleus
~a dense organelle present in most eukaryotes cells, typically a single rounded structure bounded by a double membrane, containing the genetic material

Organelle
~any of a number of organized or specialized structures within a living cell

Cell Wall
~a rigid layer of polysaccharides lying outside the plasma membrane of the cells of plants, fungi, and bacteria. In the algae and higher plants it consists mainly of cellulose

Vacuole
~a space or vesicle within the cytoplasm of a cell, enclosed by a membrane and typically containing fluid

Endoplasmic reticulum
~a network of membranous tubules within the cytoplasm of a eurkaryotic cell
