What is a natural disaster?


A natural disaster is a sudden or terrible event that is caused by nature and usually results in serious damage or injury.
There are many different types of natural disasters that happen all over the world! They serve as a severe threat to humankind, and often cause many injuries.
Here are some examples of natural disasters.
Flooding is an example of a natural disaster that happens in many different areas. Ninety percent of natural disasters result in flooding in America. Flooding causes many families to move out of their homes.

A tornado is caused by the change in weather and a large amount of thunderstorms in the area. Tornadoes are a big gust of wind that causes a formation of a funnel cloud to touch down on land.
Sirens go off around the areas that detect a tornado, warning citizens to take shelter. During May - June is when tornadoes occur the most.

A volcano is a rupture in the crust of the earth. When the magma that hits the surface, it turns into a hot lava. This lava will and can destroy anything that it touches.
The deadliest eruption killed 92,000 people in Indonesia. This happened in 1815, and there has not been a more tragic eruption yet.
