Dedicated to my table: Ashlee and Klaudia

Geography: the studies of the earth and the earths surface.
Dora and Diego quickly got to their HQ to talk about where they were going to go next.
“Why don’t we go to Russia?” asked Diego.
“We could go to Russia. But where in Russia. Russia. Russia is a relative location.” Dora said.
“What’s a relative location?” Diego asked

“A relative location is a general area, like a country or a city, in this case, Russia.”
“ Well what’s the kind of location where it is an exact spot? Because that’s what we need.” said Diego
“That’s absolute location, which like you said is an exact location. Like an address or latitude and longitude coordinates.” said Dora.
“Okay,” Diego continued, “we need an address in Russia so we know exactly where we are going, right?”
“Yes, right” said Dora.

“Okay so I’ve been doing some research and found a place we can stay at. It’s called the Moscow Marriott Royal Aurora Hotel. The address is Petrovka St-Bid 11, Moscow, Russia. It is an absolute location!” said Diego, with pride in his voice.
“Sounds great let’s go!” said Dora
They arrived at the hotel the next day and started planning what the were going to do.
“We could first go to a man made place, then go see a physical feature of Moscow to get the whole experience.” suggested Dora.

“Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, slow down. Man made and physical feature? What do they mean? Are they a part of location to?”
“No Diego, human and physical features are the 2 parts of place. A human feature is a place or feature that is man made, or not naturally formed by nature. A physical feature is something that was formed by nature. The man made feature we will be going to is the St. Basil’s Cathedral. The physical feature we are going to is the Moskva River. Does that make sense?”
“Yes a lot more that the 2 parts of location.” said Diego
“OK, well let's go! We are wasting time!”

“Hurry up we are going to miss the bus Dora.” screamed Diego.
“I'm coming, I'm coming”
They both got on the bus and found a seat.
“ Guess what part of geography transportation is part of?” said Dora.
“What this time?” Diego said annoyed.
“It is a part of movement. There are three types of movement. The first one is the movement of people, which we are doing right now, transportation that is moving people in any shape or form, like a bus or car. The second one is movement of mass communication, which is texting or emailing other people. The third and final part of movement is movement of goods. That is when a country exports, or delivers, items to other countries. That is often through a plane or boat.”

“How many parts are there to geography?” asked Diego.
“There is a total of 5 parts or themes to geography.”
“What are the other parts” asked Diego
“You see how you are wearing a coat right now.” said Dora.
“Yeah, what does that have to do with anything?”
“ Why are you wearing that coat today?” asked Dora with a sly smile.
“Because it’s cold.” said Diego with confusion in his voice.
“Well that is you adapting to the environment, and that is a part of human-environmental interaction.”
“Say what now?”

“Human-environmental interaction is the 4th part of place. It is divided into 3 groups, just like movement. The first group is ways people adapt to the environment, like how you're wearing a coat to keep you warm when it is cold outside. The second group is ways people modify the environment. Like how we build roads and buildings. The final one is ways people depend on the environment. What are ways you depend on Diego?”
“Well we depend on bodies of water for water, right? And soil for growing fruit and vegetables.”
“Right.” said Dora.
