Farming in the Past
They used horses and wagons in the past because they did not have tractors. They would put corn in the wagons after they husk it. A horse and wagon has to walk around all day and gets to rest all night.
Horses and Wagons
In the past they had no machines and used horses for plows to plant and to do all the stuff that machines do. They used horses to hull corn stalks like a machine would.
Horses to Machines
Farmers use horses on a daily basis to help them do daily work on their farms. They are used to help move large numbers of sheep or cattle from one place to another. ... The farmer will ride the horse as the pair gathers the animals, encourages them, and makes them move to the necessary area on the farm.
Plowing
Farming in the Present
Today they use machines such as a combines to harvest the corn and soybeans instead of horses. People think that combines are better than horses because they have lights.
Machines
Tractors
In the olden days they would pick the corn with horses. Today we use tractors for picking the corn. Tractors go a lot faster than the people did in the olden days. The tractors are very important to farmers and one of the reasons they are very important to farmers is that they have lights because they can do it at night.
Harvesting
In the past they harvested by hand but now we harvest with combines.Farmers usually harvest in September.Harvesting checks rainfall and lets surface run off of water and reduces soil erosion.
