In the Buddhist faith, the head monk is called the Dalai Lama and have previously been the supreme leader of political and religious Tibet. There have been 14 Dalai Lamas throughout history tracing back to 1391.

Buddhists believe that each Dalai Lama is a
reincarnation of the one before, and go to great lengths to find the next reincarnation. The current Dalai Lama was found by the Head Lamas of the
Buddhist faith.

They have a few traditional methods of finding the next Dalai Lama including following the direction of the smoke made when cremating the previous Dalai Lama, listening to the dreams of one of the Head Lamas or searching for a sign at the Oracle Lake.

The current Dalai Lama was found through a vision the Head Lamas had at the Oracle Lake. They searched for 4 years after the previous one passed away and found Tenzin Gyatso in the village shown in the Vision.

Tenzin Gyatso was born as Lhamo Dhondrub on July 6 1935 to a poor family in a village called Takster in Northern Tibet. He was found by the Head Lamas when he was 3 years old.
He is the next Dalai Lama!

When they performed the test of presenting the child with a few objects, some of which belonged to the previous Dalai Lama, Tenzin pointed at an object and shouted, “it’s mine! It’s mine!”, which further affirmed their beliefs of him being the reincarnation.
It's mine! It's mine!
