The heart is an organ in the human body, an organ with a very important function. "What does the heart do?" you may ask. Well, the heart pumps blood throughout your entire body, supplying oxygen to your tissues and removing wastes like Co2.
The human heart has 4 different chambers. The two lower chambers are called the left and right ventricles. These chambers pump blood out of your heart. The two open chambers at the top are the heart atria. They allow blood to flow into the heart.
Next, we'll go over the veins and arteries. They're both tube-like and they both carry blood throughout the body. The greatest difference between both of them is that the arteries carry blood to the body from the heart and the veins carry blood to the heart.
The way our blood circulates through our heart's 4 chambers is simple. First, the blood enters the heart through the right atrium. That's where the right ventricle pumps the blood out of the heart into the lungs. This is how the blood becomes oxygenated. The blood then returns into the heart through the left atrium. There, the blood flows into the ventricle
From the left ventricle, the oxygenated blood then moves through the smaller tubes in the body bringing nutrients and oxygen to the body's cells.
The blood brings oxygen to the body cells and takes away their carbon dioxide. The blood that travels back to the heart and lungs is oxygen deprived. It took the carbon dioxide from the body cells, and left its oxygen with the cells.
