In this book ,my goal is to educate people on the role of women in the 1920's and 1930's and make them compare and contrast how women lived before and now!-Ouelhore

A long long time ago, during the 1930's women only occupied only certain jobs and that's if they even worked! If they worked, they were either nurses , teachers or domestic servants. Women were seen as house makers and they weren't even acknowledge as "persons".In a typical family of the 1930's the men would be the bread winners and and the women would be the one taking care of the home. However that period of time wasn't very pleasing due to the great depression which means that women also had to work to make ends meet as most men were unemployed.
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to live in that era would you?!

But wait let's go back in time , In 1914 we all know was when the Great war or World War 1 occurred.During the war , workers were needed , however there were no men to occupy those certain jobs so women stepped in and worked in industries where only men could work.Unfortunately this only lasted for a while and ended after the war .However the fact that women worked in those industries making war equipment changed things for all women. This was because in 1916, only women in Manitoba , Alberta and Saskatchewan could vote however after the war , in 1918 suffrage was given to all women!
Suffrage :- the right to vote.

Although suffrage was given to women , trouble didn't stop there unfortunately. Still in the 1920's , lot's of men were coming home completely drunk , and this wasn't helping the women's case because the men would spend all the money on liquor and bring no money home to take care of the kids and the family needs in general. But then boom!!The Woman's Christian Temperance Union (or WCTU ) a women's organization campaigned for the legal prohibition of all alcoholic beverages.
The reason for this was that they believed alcohol was the cause unemployment, disease, poverty and violence against women and children.
The WTCU promoted sobriety thrift duty and family importance.
Prohibited: Something that has been forbidden or banned

The famous five statue today !
Yes alcohol was banned and prohibited , yes women got the right to vote but that didn't stop them from not being "persons" in people's eye during the 1920's and 1930's. But then five female petitioners known as the "Famous five " decided to bring a stop to the discrimination and brought the "Person's case " and to the Supreme court of Canada in 1927.
The Famous five was consisted of Nellie Mclung , Henrietta Muir Edwards , Irene Parlby , Emily Murphy and Louise McKinney.
These women were a major contribution to women rights.
Persons Case:- this was a ruling that established the right of women to be considered as people and to take part in national issues.
