
Once Upon A Time, in India during the 1500s and 1600s the *Mughals had strong power over the people of India.
*Mughals:a member of the Muslim dynasty of Mongol origin ruled much of India from the 16th to the 19th century.






















During this time period when the Mughal ruler were very powerful the *British East India Company gained a limited amount of control over the empire.
British East India Company: acquired control of Bengal on the Indian subcontinent in 1757, its shareholders were able to influence British policy there.













While the Mughals started loosing their power the British took advantage of Indian divisions by playing rival princes against each other.

British used their superior weapons to overpower local rulers


After 1858, Parliament set up a system of colonial rule in India which became known as the British Raj

In the end even though there were pros and cons to the arrangements, when under the rule of the British, a class of Western-educated Indians emerged .
