Over the dark forests, the mighty mountains and beautiful valleys, from the wide marshes begin the river Nemunas. Though different people call him different names. Everyone agrees that he is powerful and mighty river. He goes through various places in Belarus and Lithuania and the Western, pure, white clouds show him the long way to the Baltic sea.
One day Nemunas heard about Neris beauty and decided he wanted to meet her. So he did the thing that all young and fascinated creatures do, Nemunas started catching the river Neris
Meanwhile, Neris runs through the best valleys and dreams about never-ending spring. She doesnt feel lonely because she has a friend the river Dauguva. Neris is of an extraordinary beauty so a lot of people built their house next to her.
After a long searching Nemunas met Neris in Kaunas. They liked each other at first sight.
Flowers began to blossom around them and a beautiful daughter Jiesia was born.
From then, the rivers are very protective of their daughter and people living next to them. They take care and help them living happily ever after spreading love and friendship.
... and now some facts about rivers near the city Kaunas
Nemunas is the longest river in Lithuania. Its length is 937 km and exactly 359 km are flowing through Lithuania. The basin of Nemunas is 46600 km2 in Lithuania. It flows into the Baltic sea.
The shores of the river are populated from the ancient times. on the mounds there were the castles settled to fight against the crusaders. This river played big role for the countries defense.
Neris length is 510 km, 235 of them are in Lithuania. It rises in Belarus where it is called Viliya. The name Neris comes from the word „nerti“. It means „to dive“ in Lithuanian.
The river Jiesia is in the middle of Lithuania and flows through the second largest city Kaunas. Its length is 62 km. This river flows in the river Nemunas next to the Jiesia mound.
