Ugh I stepped in a puddle! I hate when it rains..

Why is that, Sally? Don't you know that rain is very important! And also fun to learn about.

OH Really? I don't believe you.
Sure! Lets wait for the rain to stop and I'll tell you all about the marvelous world of the water cycle.

Fine...

Ready to go?
Sure, I guess.

So, the water cycle begins with a little something called EVAPORTATION, ever heard of it?
No..

Evaporation is when the water at the surface begins to turn into water vapors.

How does that happen?
By simply absorbing heat energy from the sun!

That sounds sort of interesting I guess, what's the next step to this 'water cycle'?
Let's move somewhere else, I'll tell you all about CONDENSATION.

While the water is turning into vapors, it starts to rise up into the atmosphere. The water vapor turns into super tiny ice or water particles because the temperature at high altitudes are very low. When these particles come close together, they form clouds and fog!

Whoa, I didn't know that!
Well now you do! Want to keep going?

Sure.
Alright! I have a friend that I'd like you to meet, she's super smart!

Well would you look at that! My favorite dog in the neighborhood! What can I do for you you Duke?
Hi there Iris! This is my owner, Sally. I was wondering if you could tell her a little bit about Sublimination.

I'd love to! It's very simple.
Sublimation is the process when ice converts into water vapors without converting into liquid water!

This process accelerates when the temperature is low or when pressure is high. Sublimation is a much slower process than evaporation.

Wow, that sounds pretty cool, can you tell me about the next step?
I'd love to! The next step in the water cycle is precipitation.

Precipitation occurs when a portion of the atmosphere becomes saturated with water vapor, so that the water condenses and "precipitates"

So whenever it rains, snows, or or cats and dogs fall from the clouds, that is precipitation.

Wow, that's super interesting!
It really is! But as fun as it was talking with the two of you, I have to go home to my human, it's lunch time after all!

Thank you for explaining precipitation and sublimation to me.
Happy to! Goodbye Sally, goodbye Duke!
