Commencement of public drinking water supply and important milestones

Drinking water supply, as we know it today, began in the Salek Valley as early as 1930. At that time, the water supply line Bela Voda - Šoštanj was built, through which the inhabitants of the town of Šoštanj were supplied with drinking water. Further development of the public water supply in the Salek Valley is defined by the following milestones

1950: commencement of public water supply in Velenje (within RLV)

1961: The establishment of the Velenje KP and its supply of drinking water

1962: start of public water supply in Smartno ob Paki

1964: KP Velenje takes over the management of the water supply system in Smartno ob Paki

1975: KP Velenje also takes over the water supply system in Šoštanj

1976: construction of the Velenje - Šoštanj interconnector;

In the past 75 years, the water supply system in the Šalek valley has experienced a real boom, as it has grown from 7 kilometers to the length of the public water supply in the Šalek valley to more than 690 kilometers of the network, which today also covers many facilities. We are proud to say that in the area of ​​the Municipality of Velenje and the municipalities of Šoštanj and Šmartno ob Paki we have a modern supply of drinking water.
