Barack Obama was the 44th president of the United States and the first African American commander-in-chief. He served two terms, in 2008 and 2012. As the first African-American to serve as President of the United States, Obama set an example for the American people, and he also brought a new class concept to American politics.
Obama was born on August 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Obama started his preschool education at St. Francis from the age of three to five. During his several different study experiences, Obama became conscious of racism and what it meant to be African American as one of few black students at the school.

After graduating from Columbia University as an undergrad, Obama worked in the business sector for two years. He moved to Chicago in 1985, where he worked as a community organizer for low-income residents.

In 1989, Obama met his future wife Michelle. Three years later, they were married and then welcomed two daughters: Malia (born 1998) and Sasha (born 2001).
