Many years ago, merchant ships traveled to Central Asia using the Silk Road route for trade. However, people lived in dirty, filthy, and cramped conditions. They lived very close to one another. These conditions caused an increase in the black rat population.


The Silk Road was a road where merchants would trade from China into Europe. It also went through Rome, Greece, and Egypt. The Mongol Empire was effected during the Black Death because they were not able to receive goods.

The Silk Road was an ancient network of trade routes, that ran through Europe. The people used it to trade goods such as weapons, spices, salt, sugar, and expensive luxury goods. However, Chinese silk was the most favored merchandise traded and this was how the Silk Road received its name.
The Plauge was introduced to Europe by the traders from the port city of Kaffa. Then people began to get sick and continued passing the plague onto others. So much so, it began to affect trade between the countries.



Soon, the people began to get sick from the flea bite. This was the beginning of the epidemic of the Bubonic plague, The Black Death. The merchants began to say the Mongols had the plague.
