A long, long time ago there lived a tree.
He was tall and strong and had everything he needed or wanted...
Except for one thing.
He looked out at the horizon at the sky and the clouds, and farther out the skyscrapers loomed into view.
That was what he wanted. To be a city tree.

Around him there was few trees, but still the squirrels and all sorts of animals found homes here. Sometimes they would climb up into the hole in his trunk and sleep, or stash nuts and berries there for the winter. Every winter a mother squirrel would come to the tree with her baby squirrels, and they would rest and sleep and hide the nuts in his trunk.

One particular winter it was cold and the tree was feeling rather lonely. He shook and stretched and talked softly to himself. All of a sudden, the mother squirrel jumped out of the trunk and climbed up one of the squirrel's branches. She looked him deep into the eyes. Around her, snow was falling and in her paw she carried her nut.

"Dearest tree," she said, "You have waken me from my sleep. Tell me, old friend, what is wrong?"
The tree looked out into the horizon and sighed. Bits of snow fell from his limbs. Finally, he said. "Mrs. Squirrel, I am so sorry to wake you, but I have been feeling very lonely," he sighed again. "I believe I want to be a city tree."
