Once upon a time two children used to live in Italy. Arlecchino, who was the prince of Italy, and Colombina, the daughter of the king's most trusted adviser.
The two children were good friends and often played together in the beautiful gardens of the palace. They both liked almost the same things so they played without arguing.

Colombina was a very beautiful girl with long brown hair, blue eyes and white skin. Arlecchino , on the other hand, had black hair, green eyes and light skin. As Colombina grew older, she became more and more beautiful, same as Arlecchino .

After a while Colombina's father told her, she needed to get married, but she didn't want to. On Carnival time, the King organized a palace dance and invited many princesses, including Colombina. The prince was glad to see his childhood friend, but the King told him that in this dance he would have to choose his future wife.
