I dedicate this to all the food out there. Thank you. I love you.

Hi! I'm Zach! Today I will be teaching you about the food chain!

Here is a forest. It may not look like it, but there are a lot of animals that live here! These animals help make the food chain.

This is the sun. All food chains start with the sun! It provides heat, and most of all, food for the producers. Without the sun, no animals would have anything to eat, even us humans!

Remember when I said producers? Plants like grass and flowers are producers. This means that they use the sun to make their own food! This is called photosynthesis, and it is an important step for the food chain.

Producers produce their own food through photosynthesis. Consumers cannot make their own food, so they have to eat the producers. There are 4 different types of producers. Herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, and decomposers.
Some examples of consumers are rabbits, foxes, wolves, lions, elephants, and humans!

The grass grew because of photosynthesis. This allows the consumers to come and eat the plants. Animals that only eat plants are called herbivores.
Some Herbivores are rabbits, cows, sheep, and goats!

Now that the rabbit is full, the next animal in the food chain will eat the rabbit. The wolf, which only eats meat, is a carnivore so the wolf now has energy. Since nothing else in this food chain eats the wolf, the wolf is now at the top of the food chain.
Some carnivores are lions, snakes, and hawks!

Phew! Now that we are out of that scary forest, I can tell you about the other two types of consumers.
Omnivores are types of consumers that can eat both plants and animals. Humans are an example of that! That is why we have lettuce and tomatoes in our burger! That sounds good right now...
The last type are decomposers. These are mushrooms and small insects that eat dead carcasses. Yuck! They are gross, but they are still an important part of what makes the food chain!

Here is the whole food chain!
