Rashi the raccoon loves to learn. He is a curious young fellow who wants to know the ways of the Torah. Luckily for him, he lives near a family who studies Torah.

The little boy, Shlomo, learns new lessons every day with his mother and father. By honoring his parents and learning from them, he is also honoring God because God is an equal part of the creation of people. He knows this because honoring God and honoring one's parents are written the same way in the ten commandments.

Rashi noticed that Shlomo asks a lot of questions. He wondered what is the difference between fearing and honoring his parents. His mother, Mrs. Goldberg, replied that honor was more like giving to them and fear was more like being in awe of them. Rashi thought this was very interesting.

Rashi had many questions too. He wanted to know why father is written first in the commandment "honor your father and mother" and why mother is written first in the commandment "fear your mother and father." Thankfully Shlomo was thinking the same thing and asked his parents this question. Shlomo's father, Mr. Goldberg, answered that it is to remind people that the parents are equal and should be honored and feared equally.

Mrs. Goldberg then said something very surprising. She said that honoring God is more important than honoring your parents. Shlomo and Rashi were very confused because they thought that honoring your parents was the most important thing. She explained that God is greater than anyone and anything else.

Mrs. Goldberg said that she had to go say Yizkor for her mother because her mother had sadly passed away four months ago. Mr. Goldberg explained that she still had to respect her mother because it is important to still respect your parents once they have died. This made Rashi and Shlomo very sad to hear, but they thought that it was nice to carry on memories.
