About the Author
Sabrina is a student in Project Lead The Way Class Principles of Biomedical Sciences class at Ryle High School. The goal of this book is to explain how the body fights off foreign invaders through superheros.


This is Antigen. He is a common villain. He likes to make you sick. His first stop on his way to make you sick is your first line of defense: the non-specific defense.
Non-specific Defense : Meet the Heroes

This is Skin, Nose Hair, and Mucus. They are all part of Non-specific Defense through your nose. Their jobs are to stop Antigen from getting into your body and making you sick.


This is Skin. His job is to help block Antigen from getting in. He uses his shield to help block Antigen.


This is Nose Hair. His job is to trap Antigen. He uses his super strength to help trap Antigen.
This is Mucus. His job is to push Antigen out of your nose before he gets into your body. He uses his anger to help push Antigen out.


But Antigen was smart. He didn't go through your nose. He did not have to fight the Non-specific Defense. Instead, he went through your mouth. This is because he had an easier way in, since there is no line of defense in your mouth.

This is Inflammation. His job is help get white blood cells to stop Antigen. He uses his super speed to get there fast.
