The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Long, long ago in Japan, there lived an old poor bamboo cutter. One day, he was cutting bamboo in a wood when he saw one stalk of bamboo glowing a bright, golden color. Finding this mysterious, he approached it for a closer look.

To his surprise, inside the bamboo was a tiny baby girl. He decided to bring the child home with him. He and his wife raised her with love and care. They decided to name her Kaguya Hime. 

Ever since the bamboo cutter found the baby, whenever the old man went back to work in the wood, he found many gold coins pouring out from the bamboo he cut. As a result, the old couple became wealthy. 

Amazingly, within just three months Kaguya Hime grew into a beautiful young woman

Many princes wanted to marry her but Kaguya Hime did not want to marry anyone. So she gave them a very difficult task: bringing the crystal stone from the Dragon’s chest.

The princes fought very hard with the dragon but they could not get the crystal stone.

The Emperor of Japan at that time, Mikado, also came to see Kaguya-hime. He fell in love with her at first sight. He asked her to come with him to the palace, but she told him that she couldn’t,
