My mum moved to Canada when she was a kid. My dad didn't end up moving until he was a young adult.

My parents would be considered first generation Canadians.

My dad immigrated from New Zealand

New Zealand! That's so far away from Canada! What's the culture like down there?

Let me tell you some interesting characteristics.

New Zealand has two islands. The North Island, and the South Island.

My dad is from the North Island.

That's pretty cool!

What languages do they speak in Newzealand?

In New Zealand the most used language is English. They also have a native language called Maori.

Maori was spoken mainly in tribes. There are many stories about the battle of tribes in the early New Zealand days.

A big part of the New Zealand culture is sports.

A big sport in New Zealand is rugby. Before every game the national team (All Blacks) does a tribal war dance called the Haka. They do it to intimidate their opponents.

New Zealand has many native foods.

One of which is the pavlova. It is a New Zealand delicacy made for dessert.

It is topped with whipped cream and fruit. Doesn't it look delicious!

New Zealand makes some good music, but the songs never really make their way overseas.

Popular New Zealand songs include, Slice of heaven by Herbs, and Poi E by Patea Maori Club.

New Zealand is very agricultural.

A lot of New Zealand is made up of farm land.

So you see a lot of sheep when you're out for a walk!

New Zealand has made a school called the Green School. This school is based mostly off of outdoor education.

New Zealand is very temperate.

It's not too hot in the summer, and not too cold in the winter.

New Zealand is also the first country in the world to see the sun rise!
