Dedicated to Bob Ross

Bob Ross was born on October 29, 1942, in Florida. His parents were separated in his childhood but ended up remarrying each other.
He is known for his paintings of landscapes and mountains, and "happy little trees". Little is known about his childhood, but he enjoys nature.

As a child, Bob Ross was raised in Orlando, Florida. He tended to injured animals and helped out his father who was a carpenter. He often cared for animals like armadillos, snakes, alligators, and squirrels.
Bob got in an accident when working as a carpenter and cut off part of his left index finger. Most people didn't know this because he hid it.
As a young man, he was enlisted in the army in Alaska. He made his way up to sergeant and told others what to do.

Still, he didn't enjoy being loud and superior to others. He didn't like yelling orders or being mean, so he decided once he left he'd never raise his voice again.
What Bob really liked was painting.
While in the army, he learned and practiced his art. He struggled to be known, but never gave up.

And after he retired from the army, he followed in his teacher's footsteps and started a TV show. Instantly, he became a huge hit. Ross had a signature look of an afro, denim shirts and jeans.

The reason so many people loved him, was just because of how he was.
He never yelled, and only talked in a soft and comforting tone.

He was discovered by one of his art students who started his TV show. Annette Kowalski was suffering from the loss of her son, and her husband made her go to a course that Bob was teaching. “Somehow, he lifted me up out of that depression. I just think that Bob knew how to woo people.”
He'd always say that “We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents” and motivated his viewers by saying things like “The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.”

Bob didn't receive money from his TV show and taught how to paint for free. With over 20 seasons, he always remained content and funny.

Many viewers didn't even paint with him, they just watched as he continued to paint. This was because of how soothing he was. Bob was also encouraging them to paint every episode, and he made money from his company that sold art supplies to new artists.

Bob Ross Inc was the company he created and ended up as a $15 million business by selling art supplies, how-to books, and marketing painting classes by trained instructors.
Many of his paintings are of mountains, and most of them were inspired by his time in Alaska.

He taught his viewers that it is important to have an open and hopeful mind because that it is important to believe in yourself.

Throughout the years, Bob struggled with a type of cancer called lymphoma. His condition was secret and would only worsen, yet he kept a smile on his face and continued to teach.

Many were inspired by the quiet and calm artist, and he became known as a popular PBS television painter. He kept his life private but remained in the hearts of his viewers.
There are many quotes from Bob Ross that show who he is and what he wanted to do. He wanted to make others happy and relaxed. He was a simple man who was at first, unknown to the world.
