Jackie Robinson
Jackie Robinson

He was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He grew up in a single parent home with his four other siblings.

He went to college at UCLA, where he played four sports: baseball, basketball, football and track!
Robinson played one season in the Negro Baseball League, but in 1947 he was approached by the Brooklyn Dodgers about joining the team. And as soon as he put on that jersey, he broke the color barrier in baseball!

He was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1947.
He helped win 6 World Series Championships in 10 years.
And in 1984, joined the UCLA Hall of Fame
Muhammad Ali
He was born January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. At 12, his stolen bike lead to the start of his boxing career.

Ali trained with local police officer Joe Martin and eventually won the light heavyweight gold in the 1960 Olympics
He joined the black Muslim group Nation of Islam in 1964 and converted to orthodox Islam in the 1970's.
Ali refused to serve in the military in 1967, which lead to a three year suspension.
However, he returned to the ring and ended his career with 56 wins, 5 losses and 37 knockouts when he retired in 1981 at 39 years old.


Tiger Woods
He was born December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California. He started playing golf early, becoming very skilled at the age of 8 years old.
Woods attended Stanford University and won a number of amateur U.S. golf titles before going professional in 1996.

However, in 1997, Woods won the U.S. Masters at the age of 21! He was the youngest and first African American to win the title.
In fact, he has won 82 PGA Tour events which ties for first and 15 majors which is only 3 away from first.


Serena Williams
She was born September 26, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan. At the age of 3, she began practicing on a court close to her family's new home in Compton, CA.
In 1991, Williams was 46-3 on the Junior U.S. Tennis Association tour and ranked first in the 10 and under division. Shortly after, the family moved again, this time to Florida.
