The energy is present in almost every human activity: serving for heating our homes, as fuel for cars, to move the machines, lighting and more. The use of conventional fossil-energy sources enabling improved quality of life, but the production of energy with classical combustion of fossil fuels is accompanied by the release /discharge of smoke, dust, acid gases and other harmful substances. Mining for fossil fuels results in the modification and destruction of natural landscapes. Operation of nuclear power plants can be risky, and the storage and treatment of radioactive waste are still technical problems solved.
SOLUTION
The solution to this problem is to change the conventional sources of energy using renewable sources of energy.
Which RESs could be applied in your town?
Atomic energy, solar energy, and energy from wind and biоfuels are just a few of the promising alternatives for a cleaner and greener future. Other relatively new sources of energy such as fuel cells, geothermal energy, and ocean energy are also being explored.
In Riceland we could add the next renewable energy sources: wind, solar energy, organic material, geothermal and hydro energy.
Our goal in Riceland is to have at least 80% energy got from renewable energy sources and only 20% or less energy from conventional sources like coal, oil, petroleum, fuel woods, thermal power plant and other.
The sun is the main source of energy for solar radiation. The energy of solar radiation is the most abundant, inexhaustible, free and renewable source of energy that does not pollute the environment. The sun with its huge mass that is heated to high temperature (in the centre of the sun the temperature is 107K, and the area around5900 K) radiates energy.
THE SUN
The intensity of solar energy is variable and depends on many factors such as the direction of the sun's rays, the seasons, duration of solar radiation, the angle of the Sun, the orientation of the surface on which the sun's rays fall, and meteorological conditions.
Prerequisites for using solar energy is to have solar panels and sun.
SOLLAR CELL
A solar cell is an electrical device that directly converts light energy into electricity using a photoelectric effect. It is a form of photoelectric cell that, when exposed to sunlight, can generate and maintain electricity without being connected to external voltage sources. This group includes solar modules, known as solar panels and photovoltaic panels that use energy sources other thаn the Sun.
Solar panels convert the sun’s energy into electricity. A control device changes this electricity, enabling it to power electrical items. The electricity then passes through a breaker box to outlets in the building. Items such as a refrigerator and lamp can plug into the outlets for power.
HOW DO SOLAR PANELS WORKS ?
In Riceland it would be possible to use biomass energy or energy from organic materials. It will be obtained from purposely grown energy crop, wood or forest residues, waste from food crops (wheat straw, bagasse), horticulture (yard waste), food processing (corn cobs), animal farming (manure, rich in nitrogen and phosphorus), or human waste from sewage plants rich in nitrogen and phosphorus), or human waste from sewage plants.
BIOMASS
With biomass, we will exchange some products like ordinary plastic bottles to biobased plastic bottles (they can provide the same variety and reliability of ordinary plastics but are manufactured from renewable, plant-based material), products made based on petroleum to bio-based ones...
GEOTHERMAL
In Riceland there will be a geothermal energy source, so there is a possibility to use heat pumps.
A heat pump is a device used to transfer heat from one environment to another. This heat transfer consumes a certain amount of energy, which is several times less than the transferred energy.
A heat pump that uses water as a heat source and water as a heat sink takes energy from the water and also transfers it to water in another space.
Geothermal energy is a clean, renewable source because energy - heat coming from inside the earth is unlimited, and unlike other renewable sources (sun, water, wind, biomass) does not depend on weather changes but is available for exploitation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and because of this feature the production of any type of energy (electric and thermal) from this fuel is the most stable.
