Oakie was scared! The men started cutting all his friends
down, and took out the bushes. Oakie didn't know what to do.
His friends were gone! He thought he was next, but one
man said, "Leave that tree. It will die on its own." And then
the men left, taking the tree trunks with them.

were gone. The trees were gone. What was Oakie
to do? Many years passed and his leaves withered
and fell off. His trunk turned gray and thinned.
Oakie was the last tree of the once magnificent
forest. The skies were gray, the air was dirty, and
there was no nature to be seen for miles around
him. Oakie was alone.
