Oakie was a happy little tree
who lived in a wonderful forest with
all of his friends. He had many
friends such as the ants, rabbits, and
even raccoons! There were many
animals and plants in the forest.

Sometimes, people came to play in the
forest, as it was very peaceful and
safe. Children loved to climb, lay
against, and play in his branches.
Oakie loved when the children came
to visit and play.

Then one day, he saw a
little girl playing on a cell
phone. Usually, the parents
to the kids had cell phones.
Oakie noticed the girl not
running around, but rather
sitting on the grass playing on
her phone.

Soon, all the children
had cell phones and
stopped playing with
the trees. A couple weeks
later, they stopped showing
up at all. Oakie and his
friends were confused.
Why did the kids not want
to play with them anymore?

"Oh well!" Oakie thought, "We can have fun together
without the children!" But then, men with yellow hats
came and looked around. After a couple of days of
poking around the forest, they brought big tools.

The men started up the tools called chainsaws, and started
cutting his friends down. They were cutting down the trees!
Oakie was scared! The men started cutting all his friends
down, and took out the bushes. Oakie didn't know what to do.
His friends were gone! He thought he was next, but one
man said, "Leave that tree. It will die on its own." And then
the men left, taking the tree trunks with them.

Oakie was alone. The grass was gone. The animals
were gone. The trees were gone. What was Oakie
to do? Many years passed and his leaves withered
and fell off. His trunk turned gray and thinned.
Oakie was the last tree of the once magnificent
forest. The skies were gray, the air was dirty, and
there was no nature to be seen for miles around
him. Oakie was alone.
