This book is dedicated to all of the young girls/women who believe they can do anything they set their mind to... because we CAN!

Hi everyone! My name is Amelia Mary Earheart and OH golly do I love to fly!
I was born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24, 1897.
I was always an adventurous child with my head in the clouds!
That certainly explains why I grew a love for airplanes at such a young age.

I love to FLY!
Believe it or not, when I saw my very first airplane, I had no interest in it at all! Planes when I was a kid did NOT look like they do today.

They looked a little more like this!
Did you know that I was not always a pilot?
After high school, I worked as a nurse's aide to help wounded Canadian troops during World War I. During the war, everyone did their part to help and this is how I showed my support!
During this time, I also made time to attend college and became a social worker! A social worker is someone who listens to and helps those who may be going through a hard time.

How can I help?

This photo was taken in 1921 of me and my flight instructor Neta Snook at Kinner Field, Los Angeles.
In December of 1920, I had my very first ride in an airplane. I loved the thrill of soaring through the sky SO much that not even a month later on January 3rd, 1921, I was taking my first flying lesson.
I was so passionate about flying that not even 6 months later, I found myself buying my very own plane. It was a big, yellow, biplane that I famously named "The Canary."

Two years after buying "The Canary," I finished all of my training and received my pilot's license. From this point on, I knew I could take on the world! That is exactly what I did; In 1928, I became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean as a passenger.
Then on May 21st, 1932, I made history and became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Flying in planes was not the only thing I did during my time as a pilot. I also loved to write articles for magazines and published 2 novels about my flying experiences and how much it meant to me.

The Fun Of It was the second novel I wrote in 1932, that allowed me to reflect on my childhood, my interest in aviation , and life accomplishments.

Something that made me feel incredibly important was the day the First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt wrote to me asking me for flying lessons after I personally gave her a ride from an event at the White House to Baltimore and back in 1933. The lessons never happened, but I figured she was a very busy lady, so how could I get upset?
