











Today class we are going to have a "little" field trip. We are going to learn about the river valley civilization.
"The cradle of civilization"
Mesopotamia
The Euphrates and the Tigris river







This is where the Sumerians lived. They were one of the first civilizations and will also make the first writing system. They also made and used metal (to create tools) and wheels to help them work faster. This helped them a lot so they started making more jobs and gaining more people. This created cities.



This is Uruk one of the first cities.

The Babylonians soon after inherited the Sumer culture into their lives. The Babylonians were very religious so they added temples. The people soon built one of the best cities. They also made the calendar and this helped them greatly.

The Babylonian were the greatest but ended up getting conquered by the Assyrians. The Assyrians took their people in as slaves. The Assyrians built more cities with temples. They also built and developed the sewage system and started to trade with other kingdoms.


Religion
The civilizations were polytheistic and that means they believe in many gods.
All the cities had their own god or goddess that ruled over them.

This is where the people held religious events and prayed.



Egypt

The gift of Nile




Egypt was known for having pharaohs. A pharaoh was a religious and political leader.
They were also monarchs that were seen as gods. Even after one of them died the people still believed he ruled over them.




Religion
The Egyptians were polytheistic and believed in many gods.


These are the gods.


This is the valley of kings where the pharaohs were buried.

This is the Great Sphinx and it was built to resurrect the soul of Khafre by channeling the power of other gods.

This is the temple of Karnak and it was one of the biggest religious place to be built.
