"We are all like the bright moon, we still have our darker side."
-Khalil Gibran

My name is Detective Karter Dylan. I've been with the New London Police Force for 20 years and grew up here in Connecticut. I've dealt with all sorts of cases, big and small. But none have been as strange as "The Werewolf Attacks" as the media has been calling them. A series of random attacks has the city living in a constant state of fear. The victims, none of whom have been seriously injured, swear that they were confronted by a werewolf. Yeah, I'm not buying it either.

"What do we got here Addison?" I asked my partner. Detective Elliot Addison and I have been partners for about five years now. He's a straight shooter and I trust his judgement. "Another one of those werewolf attacks. The victim says that she was chased by a werewolf while jogging through the park." "Is she alright?" "Yeah, she's just a little shook up" Addison replied. "I think I'll go get some more information from her."

"Hello ma'am, I'm Detective Dylan. What can you tell me about your attacker?" As I looked at the woman telling her story about a close encounter with a werewolf, I started to get this bizarre feeling that I had seen her before. She didn't seem to have any bite or scratch marks on her but I suggested she get checked out at the hospital just to be on the safe side. This whole series of werewolf sightings seems to have really gotten to me. I haven't been myself since they began. I know that this whole thing is total nonsense but why do I feel so, I don't know, strange?

After making sure that the woman was okay, I drove Addison home before heading to my apartment. I usually conk out the minute my head hits the pillow. But not this time. I started to have such weird dreams and they all involved werewolves. The scary part was that it felt las though I was actually there. I bolted out of bed as beads of sweat soaked my forehead. I don't believe in the supernatural but something about this case didn't sit right with me. I just wish I knew what it was that was eating away at me.

The alleged "werewolf attacks" seemed to have come to an end as there were no further incidents during the month of September. Addison and I decided to use our spare time to get caught up on paperwork. "So, you buying all that jazz about werewolves?" Addison asked. "Nah, I think that the people in this city have an overactive imagination or have seen too many horror movies." "I don't know Karter, based on the calendar all of these attacks happened during a full moon. Ya never know" he smirked. "Very funny Addison but I don't believe in monsters."

As a police detective, I work all kinds of crazy hours and it tends to interfere with my sleep. Sometimes I like to go for a walk in the middle of the night to clear my head. One night, after a long day at work, I really wasn't feeling well. My heart was pounding, my joints ached, and I was starting to sweat. I decided to head outside for some fresh air. I took a few deep breaths yet the bad feeling wouldn't go away. As I sauntered down the street, I was confronted by an angry dog. I tried to calm the dog but as I grew closer he began to whimper before scampering away.

When I got back inside I rushed into the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face. As I dried myself with a handtowel I took a look in the mirror. My eyes had turned yellow and I was sporting a full beard. I just shaved this morning. What was happening to me? You don't think? No! I can't be a werewolf. I'm a vegetarian! Werewolves like meat. Feeling a little dizzy, I fell to my knees as my body began contorting into a series of painful positions. When it was finally over I was exhausted. That was pretty freaky. I think I've been working too hard. My mind is starting to play tricks on..................."

........................me. Oh no! It's true! I am a werewolf! How did this happen? Maybe those crazy dreams I've been having weren't dreams after all. I hope I don't do anything bad. Werewolves are savage beasts who hunt their prey at night. I don't want to eat squirrels or other rodents. And I especially don't want to eat people. My stomach is grumbling and I feel so weak. I'm sooooo hungry. I haven't eaten all day. What am I gonna do? Maybe I still got some quinoa in the fridge from yesterday? Quinoa? I need to feed on real food. But what?"

BURGER HOG

I jumped out of my bathroom window and began to run. I wasn't sure where I was going or what I was looking for. I had so much speed and agility. Gotta admit, that part about being a werewolf was kinda cool. I didn't get to enjoy it for long as I ran out of energy and was hit with a bad case of hunger pangs. I needed to eat and soon. I didn't want to break my no meat rule but I had to eat something or else I'd lose control. Against my better judgement I ran over to Burger Hog and, no pun intended, wolfed down two massive hamburgers.

I felt nauseous after scarfing down those burgers but at least it got rid of the cravings. I decided to go home and try to get some sleep but couldn't settle down for obvious reasons. Having the TV on in the background usually helps me to drift off to sleep so I decided to put on the news. "I'm Woof Blitzer. Happening now, breaking news! Detective Karter Dylan is a werewolf." Wait a second! What did he just say? "Don't worry, you're the only one who can see this exclusive report. You see Karter, it was only a matter of time before you became a werewolf."

"OWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!"
"One evening, early in your policing career, you were chasing after a bank robber. He darted into a dark forest where you followed suit. From behind the bushes, a big dog snarled at you before biting your leg. That was no big dog. It was a werewolf. You have lived with this condition for years without becoming one of them. But recently, something has triggered your inner beast. Stand by as I reveal the big threat coming to New London." I waited and waited as the screen mysteriously became fuzzy. The TV then turned itself off. So I'm a werewolf. Now what?

I finally fell asleep around 6:30 in the morning only to be awoken by my alarm clock. I didn't have time to eat or shower or else I'd be late. I looked like an unmade bed as I stumbled into work. "Yikes! What happened to you Dylan? Your hair's a mess and it looks like you slept in your clothes last night. And is that a pickle on your cheek?" "I had a pretty rough night Addison." "I'll say." "I'm gonna head to the locker room and clean myself up." "Good idea. I'll have a hot cup of black coffee waiting for you."
