Before his class arrived, Mr. Frog was thinking about a new unit to teach to his students. The unit would be on the wonderful world of mushrooms. However, Mr. Frog didn't know how ready his students were for a unit like this. 

Mr. Frog knew he would need to deliver a formative assessment, such as a class discussion, to see where his students are at in regard to the topic. A formative assessment will help Mr. Frog guide his students forward into this new unit. 

When the class arrived, Mr. Frog began by showing the class a mushroom.
