
Marie Curie was born in Warsaw, in Poland, in November 7th, 1867. Her single name was Marya Sklodowska.
Since she was young, she wanted to be a scientist, but there weren´t any universities for women in Poland.
She worked as a teacher for five years because she didn´t have any money to study in Paris.
She went to Paris to study Science (Physics) and Maths.
Marie met her husband, Pierre Curie, in 1894.
Pierre and Marie worked together. They discovered two chemicals, radium and polonium.
They worked with other scientists to develop the X-rays.
In 1903 Marie and Pierre won the Physics Nobel Prize. Marie was the first woman to win it.
Then in 1911, she won the Chemistry Nobel Prize.
In 1906 she became the first female professor at the University of Paris.
In 1914, World War One started, so Marie helped and worked for the Red Cross.
She inspired her own family and many women in Europe. Because of Marie Curie, they went to universities and became scientists, doctors, and engineers.
She died in July 4th, 1934, in Sancellemoz,France.
