This is my friend Paul, he will guide us on our journey! So do you know where we are?
Thank you for asking! We are at an amazing place called Varanasi.
Why is Varanasi so important to Hindus?
The city of Varanasi is one of India’s oldest and holiest cities. The city is important to Hindus because it is dedicated to the god Shiva. It is built on the banks of the River Ganges and pilgrims travel for miles to immerse themselves in the sacred river. They believe that bathing in the Ganges will help purify them and wash away their sins.
Hinduism
They often have elaborately carved exteriors, thousands of shrines and temples dot the landscape in India. Many of them are by rivers or streams for the reason of purification.
