Fibonacci's biography

Fibonacci was an italian matematician who was born around 1170 in the Republic of Pisa.When he was young,Fibonacci liked to travel around the world with his father to help him,thus he learned Arabic language and the Hindu-Arabic numeral system.

Recognizing that arithmetic with Hindu-Arabic numerals is simpler and more efficient than with Roman numerals, Fibonacci traveled to most Mediterranean countries (Egypt, Syria, Byzantium, Sicily, and Provence) to study with teachers of account of Arab origin of those times.He also gets acquainted with Al-Khwarizmi's algebra.

Mathematics

One of the great merits of Fibonacci is the introduction of arithmetic in the European trading system. Thus, he gave importance to the number zero and recognized the superiority of the Arabic numbering system over the Roman one.

Leonardo invents operations with fractional numbers, the process of bringing to the same denominator, procedures for solving problems of commercial arithmetic, division into proportional parts, mixing problems, operations with irrational numbers, recurrence relations, the problem of birds, etc.

He proposed a sequence of natural numbers in which each term is equal to the sum of the two previous, later called the Fibonacci sequence. In the book Liber Abaci ("The Book of the Abacus", 1202), Fibonacci introduces the so-called modus Indorum (Indian method), a method known today as Arabic numerals. The book describes an enumeration with numbers from 0 to 9 to which it gives a separate value.

Nature

Fibonacci sequences occur in biological environments, such as branching into trees, arranging leaves on a stalk, flowering artichoke, a curving fern, arranging a pine cone, and the bee family tree.
