

This is Hanaan. She is a Palestinian-Canadian living in Hamilton, Ontario. When she had to do a country project for school, she chose to do it about Palestine so she could learn more about her heritage. Here are her notes:

Palestine is in Asia. On maps, it is often referred to as the Occupied Palestinian Territories. It borders Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.

Palestine is recognized as a sovereign state by 130 UN states. It has a total population of more than 4.5 million people. Gaza city is one of the largest cities in Palestine with a population of 410,000 people.

Other beautiful cities in Palestine include Nablus, Bethlehem (Bait Lahem), Hebron (Al Khaleel), and Jericho (Areeha) which is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world!

Palestine's climate varies from place to place. It has a Mediterranean climate in the West Bank that is cooler at the elevated areas of the west. Gaza has mild winters and dry hot summers.


The national animal of Palestine is the mountain gazelle. It is the symbol of speed and beauty and is often praised by Arab poets.
The main languages spoken in Palestine are Arabic:

and Hebrew:

The major religions practiced in Palestine are Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. The disputed capital of Palestine is Jerusalem (Al-Quds). It is home to many holy shrines like Al Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
