Dionysus also known as His real name is Bacchus, was a Greek God of wine, grape cultivation, ritual madness, theater and religious ecstasy and emotions. A Man of many things, very talented.

Dionysus lived his life of fame and being worshiped  in 1500-11000 BCE. Son of Zeus and his mother is Semele.

Many people back then also identified him as the “masked” God. They identified him as this because the ancient Greeks believe that when you drink wine there is another side that comes out such as all the emotions and feelings, something like a person with two personalities to them.

 A mask has two sides of it, one side that people see all the time and then the inside that everyone doesn't see and it is “two faced” more  hints to ¨masked¨ god.

Who wants to have split personalities after drinking  wine? You may ask. Apparently the people of the town he stayed in as they worshiped him they went on to make a festival.

 Greek God named Pisistratus came up with the festival that is called The festival of Greek Dionysus in the 7th century BC. It was the 2nd most important festival in ancient Athens.

In honor of Sir Dionysus they continued to celebrate him and thank him for his blessing of wine in the town with several activities and events such as  the theoretical contest which is where  people act out dramatic comedies and tragedies. They wrote out the play, produced and acted tragedies on many different themes. At the end the best actor or poet was chosen by some judges and would win and every year someone is the winner.
