Handerson’s Hammer
That came to life

Once upon a time...
There was an old man named Greg Handerson. He enjoyed building things since he was 3 years old, no matter if it was a Lego brick, or stacking up his breakfast waffles... whatever he was given, he used to build with. It was on one summer day when he was 8 years old and he was swimming in the pool...
“Greg, surly you shouldn’t be stacking up the pool floats...”
But Greg did what he wanted. He had made a tower of pool floats and was on the very top before it tumbled and crash into the pool water. Now, Greg could not swim. He never took a single class. Not one. He didn’t even accept help from his parents to teach him. So, as he tumbled, he only had the floats to save him. “HELP!” he cried as he was thrown into the water. “I CAN'T SWIM!” but he was already underwater. He tried all he could to somehow maneuver up and onto land, but he was not able to. His parents dashed in to save him. They were able to grab him and save him, but from that day on he never, ever, ever tried to build ever again.
16 years Later...
Chapter 1: The Floating Hammer
“DAN!” called Greg to his new partner. He was working at a farm, feeding the animals, but something very strange was going on. “YEAH?” he called back. “I THINK THERE IS SOMETHING YOU’D BETTER SEE!” Dan rushed over to see a Floating Hammer! “What the...?” The hammer was building something, but they didn’t know what. “is this some sort of prank, Greg?” he asked. “No... I just want to figure out what in the world is going on!” then, the hammer stopped, turned to Dan and Greg, and then went back to hammering. Both the men were confused but didn’t try to stop the hammer from doing what it was doing.
They wanted to see what it was building. When it stopped, they were astonished. The hammer had built them a machine that could give people super-powers! In real life! “what? Why does it say PRESS ME TO GET SUPER-POWERS?” dan had asked. “Well, maybe it REALLY WORKS!” And with that, Greg ran up and slammed the button, so hard it made a marking on his hand. Immediately, shock waves traveled up his spine. “you know, I this this M-M-m-M-M-m-Might be working! I feel s-S-S-S-s-S-s-shock waves everywhere!”
but with that, he was given superpowers! He flew into the air, and all around. “Uhm, Greg?” called Dan from the ground. “Yeah?” asked Greg. “I don’t think you should have done that. I have a feeling this is some sort of trap and-” but with that, he was shot with a poison dart and was knocked out cold. “DAN!” called Greg. He darted to the ground to save his friend. But before he could, he heard a plane above him. He was instantly caught in a net and was taken into the plane. Dan was grabbed by someone and that someone was taken into the plane. Suddenly, someone grabbed him and threw him against the side of the plane. Then, everything went black.
Chapter 2: One Stupid Spy
When he woke up, Dan was already awake. But something was wrong. His hair was going straight up pointed at the ceiling! But then he realized he was hanging upside down tied to a rope. He noticed it was very hot in the room. But then he looked under himself and realized something insane: He was dangling above a fire! “what is going on?!” he asked, in a horrified tone. “I don’t know. The Last thing I remember was seeing a masked man with a gun pointed to my head, and then pain, pain, pain, and then everything had gone black.”
Greg was mad. “We have to get out of this stupid situation!” and with that, he tried to wiggle out of the rope. This only put him closer to the fire, making him much hotter. “Greg? I don’t think this is working.” Observed Dan. Soon, Greg realized this because he was literally burning up. Right when he was about to fall in the fire, though, he remembered something: he had superpowers! So, he flew up and untied him and Dan. “Man, super-powers really can be a lifesaver!” exclaimed Dan.
But the excitement of escaping didn’t last. “Give your powers to me!!!!!” came a voice from the shadows. A chill went up Greg and Dan’s spines. “w-who said that?” Dan asked in the most terrified sounding tone in the world. “I am a secret spy that is the smartest spy in the world that works for the other smartest spy in the world, or you can call her Judeth."
“Whoever this spy really is” thought Greg out loud “is not the best spy without a doubt. I'm sure I can somehow stop it...” but he then realized he was speaking out loud. This set the spy off. “Argh! You stupid fool! You can’t stop me! And I am the best spy ever known! Nobody can stop me... ahahahaha...ahahaha...AHAHAHAHA!” laughed the spy. But little did the spy know, Judeth (her boss. Remember?) was there the whole time. She grabbed the spy, and threw her on the ground, right next to Dan and Greg, revealing the spy’s horrid face.
At this sight of it, Dan passed out. But as he fell forward, the tip of his hair touched the flames, and he was lit on fire. Greg tried to get Dan out of the fire, but it seemed like he was stuck to something. Indeed, he was. When his hair touched the fire, it had awoken the fire demon. The demon was grabbing Dan, and it was only just then that Greg realized this. He did the only thing he could – he grabbed the spy and took one last look at its horrid face, as he threw it at the fire.
Chapter 3: That’s Just How It Goes
“noooooo!” cried the spy as “it” was burned to a crisp. Judeth was furious. “AARRRGGHH! THAT WAS MY ONLY SPY!!! YOU WILL PAY FOR THAT!!!” Judeth ran at Dan and Greg, while they ran at her. It was going to be a big explosion. When they hit, an ear-splitting sound rang out across the plane. Greg used his superpowers! “GAHHHHH! NOOO!”Judeth immediately disappeared! “Well, I'm glad that’s out of the way! Now let's get outta here!” said Dan. But then they realized something – nobody was flying the plane!
It was plummeting down to the ground and- but that’s when they realized something that made them even more scared. They were flying above the ocean! “Greg... it was nice knowing you! I'm getting out of here!” Dan took a parachute from the side of the plane and hopped out – only to realize how stupid it was. Greg jumped out and flew around to Dan, catching him before he made it to the icy waters. “Dan! Were you just going to leave me here to die? I can't believe you!
Well, we don’t have time to be mad at each other. We need to get that plane back up and running! And before it sinks! It’s our only hope.” And with that, Greg raced up to the plane in midair holding Dan. He got into the plane and right into the pilot’s seat, and then, to Dan’s surprise, just sat there. “Uhm, Greg?” asked Dan. “Yeah?” “there is just one problem with this problem.” “What's that?” “You don’t know how to fly a plane.” “Oh.” “But I used to be a pilot - I do!” and with that, Dan and Greg switched places. Quickly, Dan got used to the controls of the plane and they were back in the air.
When they finally saw land, though, Dan got a little too excited and let go of the steering rod. They were quickly going from soaring high in the air to plummeting to their doom! “DAN! PUT YOUR HANDS ON THE STEERING ROD!” But the plane was already in the water. Very quickly it was filling up, and it was soon fully submerged. Dan was panicking. Greg then realized something. He had superpowers! He opened his eyes and took a breath, and he could breathe!
He opened his eyes and took a breath, and he could breathe! He swam over to the drowning Dan and snatched him up and out of the water. “Superpowers to the rescue!” Greg said. He had always wanted to be able to say that. “AHH! PUT ME DOWN! WHO ARE YOU?!” Greg was confused. "Dude, it's me, Greg. What are you doing?” Dan had hit his head on the side of the ship twice when it hit the water and he had lost his memory.
Chapter 4: it’s just a breeze
Greg quickly flew dan to shore and sat him down. He looked dazed. A red bump was sitting right atop his head. Greg soon realized he lost his memory. “Dan? You remember me?” Asked Greg, nervously. “No. Who are you anyway?” “I'm your best friend Greg, dude. You don’t remember though. You were flying a plane and almost fell out into sea. Now let's get you to a doctor somewhere!” Dan was still processing all this. As he walked with Greg, he muttered to himself, “I flew a plane?"
They walked for a bit, and soon they head rustling in the bushes. Greg didn’t think anything of it, but Dan was a little more worried about it. “Hey Greg? I think someone is in the bushes.” Greg though otherwise. “It’s just a little breeze, don’t worry about it.” “Umm... I don’t think so.” “Why not?” “probably because I see them, looking at us like they want our heads on a silver platter.” “Oh. Yeah, your probably right.” Right on cue, they all came out, with wooden swords and bows and arrows pointed at Greg and Dan’s heads.
“Woah Woah Wooooaaaaaah! We come in peace! We come in peace!” The men looked confused. “Wot?” one of them said. “Excuse meh?” Greg whispered to Dan, “At least they speak English!” Then, acting like a total crazy man, he said, “Weh Com in peace!” The men smiled and nodded at each other. “Why aw you hear?” The boss said. “Weh need tuh git houm!” Dan said. He was gaining his memory back! “We cin get ya houm. But wit won condition. You moust proove youself wothy!”
Dan and Greg were confused. What did that mean? “How cin weh prove ourselves wothy?” replied Dan. And, to his surprise, the leader said, “Just wolk over sum flamin howt coals, of course!” Dan and Greg both gulped the biggest gulp they ever had. “Com ova here! That’s where em’ coals awe at!” Dan and Greg silently nodded at each other and decided to follow them. They needed to get back home. When they finally stopped walking, they came across the coals.
“All roight, mate! Now its toime for you to take ye leap o’ faith and wolk across em coals!” Dan looked at Greg, and Greg looked at him. They started changing expressions, as if they were having a conversation in nods and shakes. They eventually stopped, and Dan announced, ”We have decided I will be going first. Please, stay back.” he dropped is foot on the scorching hot coals. Pain shot up his leg, and his feet felt like they were going to explode. He took another step. More extreme pain. He lifted his foot up to take another step, but the pain got too intense. He tried to go back, but he tripped and fell into the extreme coals.
In that second, he saw his life flash before his eyes. He was about to die. He had accepted it. It was over. It was really, all over. As he hit the coals, his whole body screamed with pain, and he was the middle of the coals. All the sudden, everything went black. Greg watched in horror. ”DAN! DAN! NO!” was the last thing he heard when he could no longer feel. He could no longer see. He could no longer smell. Greg reached in and brought Dan out of the coals. He turned around, to ask for help, but all the men were gone. Suddenly the door to the coals shut. It was a trap!
Greg looked for an exit to the room, but he couldn’t find one. Suddenly, he heard the room being bashed against something. It was being thrown around. And all of the sudden.... he hit his head. It was over... or was it?
Chapter 5: Dead.
A man.
Greg saw a man. Standing there. Not doing anything, but just standing over him. Watching him. Suddenly, he looked at him, and his eyes widened. “Marideth!” The man called. “One of them is awake!” Greg looked around. He saw medical tools – Stethoscopes, Thermometers, A Sphygmomanometer (sfig·mow·muh·naa·muh·tr - A medical tool that measures you heart beats.)
and other things he didn’t know the name of. When he stopped looking around, he saw the big man and a woman looking down at him. “Hi. My name is Marideth, and this is my husband Grant. How do you feel?” As soon as they said that Greg quickly noticed the pain in his forehead “Horrible. But where am I?” The couple looked at each other, silently nodding, even though they looked like they were worried about something. “Well, promise us you won't scream when we tell you.” This got Greg very confused. “Well... ok.” Grant sighed, and said, "Your dead. This is the afterlife.”
Chapter 6: Dan
Immediately forgetting his promise, Greg screamed at the top of his lungs. He tried to get up, but noticed that he couldn’t, even though nothing was stopping him from leaving. Grant sighed once again. “This is basically heaven. You can’t leave until you feel better. But, of course, I can deactivate the auto-blockage system. He snapped his fingers and in an instant, he shot out of the bed and ran out the door. To his surprise, he saw all his favorite things – Trampolines, donut and ice cream machines, a brand-new car, a wonderful little house, and even his favorite farm animal, his Ginger Cat (Which happened to be named Ginger).
“What... I... Ginger... What...?” Grant and Marideth ran out the door. “I told you. Heaven. You see what you want to see. If you can think it, you can see it, and you can most likely do it!” Greg had immediately realized something. As he said that. Dan! He rushed back inside the little hospital area he came from, and he saw bruised dan, burnt and asleep, just sitting there. “DAN! DAN?” Again, Grant sighed and ran back into the hospital area.
“Your friend got it bad. The whole coal situation with the strange men... yeah, it was bad all right. Those men were the first men on earth. We have a story about them. The first to were walking, and their names we Oc and Groc. Groc found a stick, and he gave it to Oc. That is why he is in heaven. (he was the first ever person to do something good. That’s a good thing.) though, Oc immediately beat Groc with the stick and-
Greg stopped him right there. “Ok, story time is over. I want Dan up. I want him awake and better!” Grant looked at Maredith and laughed. She laughed too. “Oh Greg, you are a really good jokester, you know? HaHaHa!” Greg looked confused. “There is nothing funny about what I just said. Im serious! I want him better right now!” This made Grant laugh even harder. When he saw the expression on Greg’s face, though, he stopped, and said,
