This is Kaylee. At school Kaylee and her classmates are learning about recycling.

They learn that recycling is turning trash materials into reusable materials. But only certain materials like paper, plastic, glass, or metal can be recycled into reusable materials.

Fascinated by turning trash into reusable items, Kaylee rushed home to tell her mom all about it.

Our trash gets picked up all together, there is no special garbage truck that comes to our neighborhood checking for our recyclables.
Kaylee was disappointed when her mom told her their neighborhood does not recycle.

That night Kaylee was so bothered that her neighborhood doesn’t recycle, she stayed up all night trying to come up with a way to change her neighborhood.

I want to write a letter to our mayor, to let him know that our neighborhood is in need of recycling! Our city is in need of recycling! Our planet is in need of recycling!
The next day at breakfast, Kaylee wanted to share the idea she came up with.

Surprised by her daughter’s idea, Kaylee’s mom got on the Internet and looked up the mayor’s address information.

Kaylee began writing her letter to the mayor.
