Family Day!

Miss Stocum & Miss St Vil encounter many different types of families in their classroom each year. 

Let's explore some of the different types of families that exist!

Some families have two parents, a mom and a dad,

and only have one child.

Other families have many children!

These types of families are called nuclear families.

Some families have two dads or even two moms. 

These are called LGBTQ families.

Other families only have one parent, which can be a dad or a mom.

These are called single-parent families. 

Some families don't have any parents,

but have grandparents instead.

And others have aunts and uncles, or even close family friends.

These families are called families by choice, they sometimes consist of extended family members and/or friends.

Some families have no parents and only have siblings.

Others have no parents or siblings at all.

Some children become a part of foster families where they are temporarily placed with another family. Sometimes this can last their entire childhood.

Some parents are married others are not.

Some may have been married at first but later get divorced.

Some families have parents that were never married.

But later get married to different people and have more kids.

These are called blended families.
