The Bill of Rights contains the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution. It guarantees essential rights, civil liberties, and reserves rights to the people and the states.

This is George. It is December 16, 1791 and the Bill of Rights just got passed. George is excited to explore and learn about all of the new things he can do!

I can't wait!

The first thing George does today is walk outside. He screams as loud as he can, "Blue is the best color in the world!" His friend from across the street yells back, "No, orange is!" This is all part of the First Amendment- Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. This means that both George and his friend can express their opinions, like what their favorite colors are, even if they disagree.

Blue!
Orange!

Next, George goes to his Grandpa's house and notices he has a lot of guns he uses to hunt. This is part of the Second Amendment- The right to bear arms. This means George's grandpa has the right to own weapons, like his hunting guns!

Then, George walks down the street and notices some soldiers walking out of his neighbors house because they were kicked out for trying to stay there. It was okay that they were kicked out, because the third amendment does not allow the military to take over someone's home to house soldiers.

After that, George notices a police officer asking to search his friend's wallet because the police officer saw that the wallet was orange and didn't like it. George's friend told the officer 'No,' because that violated his Fourth amendment right. The fourth amendment means you or your belongings cannot be searched without a good reason.

Next, the police officer asks George if he had a blue wallet. George did, but he did not want to say so, because maybe the police officer did not like blue wallets either. George did not have to answer because, with the fifth amendment, you have the right to remain silent in order to avoid exposing yourself of something. So, George did not answer the officer.

After getting past the officer, George heard his neighbor complaining that she was supposed to go to court because of a speeding ticket, but her court date was so far away! She decided to call the courthouse and complain, because the sixth amendment gives you the right to a speedy and public trial. George's neighbor should not have to wait!
