Jorg started experiencing acne at the age of 16. Everyone, herself included, thought that it was the normal signs of puberty. She started going to different dermatologists, using different kinds of facial soap, different procedures, and it costed her mom a lot. She also noticed that she was not losing weight, she has hard time sleeping, was moody, and had irregular periods. Her period would either be late, non existent, or more than 7 days. With all these symptoms, she started seeing an OB-GYNE.



Well, your symptoms points to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. But to get a proper diagnosis, we have to do tests.

She took tests that are appropriate and was able to confirm that she is suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. She was prescribed pills that would regulate her period and would lessen her symptoms. But she was scared. The doctor explained what her condition is, the risks, and the changes she needs to do. But it scared her more than ever.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS is a condition where in a woman produced more male hormones (. Since males does not go through periods or menstruation, the body of a woman who produced more male hormones, she does not get regular periods too. Women have follicle-stimulating hormones that helps the ovary release a mature egg. In PCOS, many small, fluid-filled sacs grow inside the ovaries that presents as a 'cyst' and thus the condition's name.
Since the hormones are compromised, symptoms such as acne, weight gain, loss or excess of hair, and mood changes are present. Risks such as diabetes, infertility, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and more are also present. In numbers, an estimate of 164 million women in the world are diagnosed with this condition. There is no cure, but you can manage it by changing your lifestyle, exercising, and taking care of yourself. Pills are also given for managing and reversing the symptoms.






For Jorg, her symptoms includes the main symptoms like severe acne, weight gain, loss of and excess hair, mood changes, and trouble sleeping. After several blood tests, her endocrinologist diagnosed her with pre-diabetes. Another symptom for PCOS is insulin-resistant where in the person does not process sugar well and the sugar does not convert to energy, making that person tired and a high risk for diabetes since insulin-resistance comes with unending cravings for more sugar. The doctor suggested losing weight and managing her food. Her OB GYNE also gave her birth control pills to manage her period and other symptoms.
